This year, some of my closest girlfriends and I decided to celebrate Galentine’s Day, as dubbed by the wonderful Leslie Knope in Parks and Recreation (A.K.A. Amy Poehler). Traditionally on the 13th February, it’s a day for you and your girlfriends to meet up and have a lovely girly time! You may notice it’s handily the day before Valentine’s Day, so even the friends who are happily un-single can join in on the fun!
There’s a mixture of single and non-single gals in our group, but that did not stop us from organising our date a couple of weeks ago, spending the evening dressing up and then heading off to our favourite restaurant, Roots. They serve Jamaican/Caribbean food and it’s all delicious. We’ve been there a few times now and love the atmosphere. As one of my friends pointed out, it felt like we should have been sat by the beach! Personally, I think Galentine’s is a fabulous occasion. I mean, who would I be to turn down an excuse for a good ol’ natter, loads of yummy food and cocktails a-plenty? A madwoman, that’s who!
It was also really nice to be able to do something special for the day of luuurve with my best friends. I’ll be spending actual Valentine’s day at a movie night some of my other friends are having, and probably ordering some pizza along the way! Well, I may as well indulge myself, right?
How are you going to spend your day? And what would you rather: Valentine’s or Galentine’s?
