It’s not every day that I wear orange. In fact, I tend to steer well away from it for fear of looking like a giant Wotsit. That’s also the reason I avoid fake tan. If you hadn’t noticed, (and you probably have because the clue is in my blog name), I’m a redhead. Now, there are many different shades in the giant colour chart of redheads, but I can safely say I am well into the orange spectrum. No auburn or chestnut to see here, ladies and gents.Ever lose anyone in a massive crowd and panic that you’ll never find them again or, worse, that you’ll have to ask someone to call over the tannoy to find them? Yeah, me too (ground, swallow me up now). But luckily for my friends and family they never have to worry about this as my hair is like a beacon of light illuminating my every move.
Don’t get me wrong, I love my hair colour. I actually wasn’t someone who hated it when they were younger either, it’s never phased me. I was very lucky in the fact that I was never bullied at school for being ginger, and because of it I never had a problem with my hair. Something I have learnt over the years, though, is what colours definitely do not look good with my vivid locks. Pinky-toned maroons (thanks to my secondary school jumper), hot pink (thanks to girly-girl little Joanna) and the colour itself, orange.
However, the colour is most definitely on trend right now, and that hasn’t gone unnoticed by my usually orange-immune tastes. In fact, I have a confession to make. I’ve actually rather liked adding a bit of brightness to my look. I’m still not brave enough to go for orange clothing, but some shades have found their way into my nail polish rotation of late. One I’m particularly loving is this offering from Rimmel. It’s their Salon Pro Nail Varnish in Hip Hop. A gorgeous orange/red toned coral, it has a lovely finish to it and it’s pretty long-lasting too. I’ve been wearing it for about 4 days now and only the tiniest bit of tip wear is starting to show. My other favourite is actually one I received in my last Birchbox. It’s Soigné Botanique’s nail lacquer in Persimmon. It’s definitely quite pricey for a nail varnish, and I’m not sure I’d purchase this if it hadn’t come in the Birchbox – I think you can probably find similar options on the high street. Nevertheless this is a beautiful dark orange shade with a great formula. The packaging looks really high-end too, and considering the price, so it should! I enjoy wearing this because it’s not a neon orange, it’s more warm toned – almost red. Actually, the colour isn’t a million miles away from the Rimmel offering so maybe there’s a theme occurring here!
Have you tried any of these nail polishes? And if you’re a redhead, what’s your opinion on wearing orange? Embrace or avoid it?
