FOTD: Minimal Makeup Look for Holiday

When I’m on holiday I like to keep my makeup as minimal as possible. There’s nothing worse than being in 30 degree heat with foundation melting down your face! In fact, if I’m spending the day lying by the pool I’ll just forego the makeup all together and stick to sunscreen. If I’m going to be wandering round a town and playing tourist, though, I’ll sometimes put a minimal look like this on (if I can be bothered)! It’s super natural and is designed more to enhance my natural features than create new ones, so this would also be a great look for school or if you just don’t like wearing a full face every day.

As I’m on holiday, it becomes even more important to wear an SPF daily (although I always try to anyway)  I’m currently loving Cane + Austin Protect Ultra Sheer SPF 50. It’s pricey but I love it because it is what it says, ultra sheer. It doesn’t leave a sticky residue on your skin at all, you only need a tiny squirt to cover your whole face, and it’s really high protection which for a redheaded girl like me, is the most important thing!

For my base I keep things extremely simple, just mixing some of the Lush Feeling Younger Skin Tint to my Korres moisturiser (full review here) to add a natural dewy glow to my skin. The skin tint can be used like this or as a cream highlighter. It’s super glowy and natural looking so I prefer to use it all over the face to create an illuminated complexion. I skip foundation and just cover any blemishes with my Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer and go under my eyes with a more highlighting option – the L’Oreal Lumi Magique Concealer. I add a touch of matte bronzer just to warm up my face (the white moisturiser can make me look a bit washed out even when it’s blended in) and then go in with my favourite Revlon Cream Blush in the shade Pinched for a natural peachy flush. I keep eyes simple. I’m actually not wearing mascara in the picture (I like to get my eyelashes tinted before I go away to avoid any panda-eye pool mishaps) but if I was it’d be the Max Factor Waterproof Clump Defy because it looks seriously natural!  To finish I just slick on a bit of the Maybelline Color Sensational Gloss in Cashmere Rose for a low key dewy lip and I’m good to go!

The best thing about this look is that it’s really high SPF so you’ll be protected for a while, but in the sun you should definitely re-apply sunscreen after a couple of hours. As there’s not loads of products in the base, re-applying sunscreen won’t mess up your makeup too much! I find this look is a great way to let my skin breathe, but still have a bit of coverage if I’m going out in public and don’t want to go bare-faced!
